Is It Fair To Say That Those Who Are Obese And Don’t Eat Healthy Are Living In Sin?

Melissa L asked:

If Christians believe that you are not to damage your body God’s temple then could it be said that those who don’t work out and eat healthy are sinners?

Is not having a good diet and regiment damaging God’s temple as well?

    I love fat christians.

  2. Ain't~That~Rich Says:

Isn’t that one of the seven deadly sins: sloath?

  3. julieisbest Says:

I guess maybe the sin of gluttony?

  4. Colette Pioline ART Says:

Obesity related illnesses kill far more people than STDs do…

  5. Elizabeth C Says:

I’m thinking Gluttony. One of the big 7.

  6. Suzi B Says:

I think it is safe to say that we are all living in sin. Not just the obese.

  7. Pudding Puddington Says:

it should be considered a sin.

an even bigger sin is letting your child get fat!!

  8. Yage Says:

Wasn’t gluttony one of the deadly sins?

Or am I taking that way out of context?

  9. Miss Scarlett Says:

I don’t see why not. Gluttony is also a deadly sin, so it’s a double whammy.

  10. Dreaming Of The Past** Says:

gluttony (over indulging) is one of the 7 deadliest sins

so yes according to christians they are sinning

  11. searching_please Says:

Many people who AREN’T obese eat worse and treat their bodies worse than fat people. Look at how the folks in Hollywood treat their bodies (drugs, anorexia/bulemia, alcohol, etc) and our society holds them up as examples of what’s perfect! Our minds have been really brainwashed.

Mormons believe that to smoke or drink caffeine is a sin. Muslims believe eating pork is a sin. Jewish people have strict dietary laws too. I guess it’s all in how you look at it.

There is also some evidence that obesity may be caused by a virus that is contracted early in life. If that is the case, how will you look upon all the people that you have been judging as gluttons who are actually people suffering from an illness?

  12. pinky Says:

ok it may say that but some people can’t help being obese some have diseases that make them obese so NO! I don’t think that people that are obese are living in sin and yea if they are obese and they got that way because of their lack of self control then they should start doing something about it.

  13. The One Says:

Yes, this is true. I am not obese but I am over weight. I tend to over eat and this is a sin. Gluttony. I fall short of the goal daily but through the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I am forgiven and saved. Thanks for pointing this out. Peace be with you my friend.

  14. Austinlad Says:

It is a sin to over-indulge in most anything, including food. That’s why christianity preaches against alcohols and nicotine and things like that. So yes, they are considered sinners, but aren’t we all.

  15. Amanda Says:

I don’t think so necessarily. I just believe that they are damaging themselves and bringing about the possibility of developing serious health problems due to their lack of control

  16. SuperCee Says:

But it still boils down to choices we make. It is a person’s choice not to sin. Living in sin is basically an unmarried couple living together so you should word your question correctly, especially if you want to be insulting. Sin is the transgression of the law and the law is the 10 commandments so where is being obese a sin? Maybe by society standards since so much emphasis is placed on having a toothpick body. You shouldn’t sit back throwing sticks and stones.

  17. Ray G Says:

This is one of the seven deadly sins: gluttony. Technically, it is a sin, even though it is not directly mentioned, sort of like smoking. Basically, anything you do that causes harm to your body is wrong. It is probably the most committed sin in all of Christendom.

  18. complicatedtallblonde Says:

I have asked this to my priest and there was a pastor or priest on tyra and the same question was asked. They also thought it was gluttony (however it is spelled) and that is not true. Gluttony is when you are so greedy you eat it just so someone else can’t.

But I think that could be true that you are not treating your body like a temple. It could also be said if you use drugs, drink more than one or two beers or glasses of wine at a time, take certain presc. drugs that have side affects, or if you have and eating disorder (overeater, anorexia, bulimia) and many more.

I think what god is refering to is getting rest, taking care of yourself in general.. we all cannot treat our body perfect.

Being obese can actually be a medical condition where they do work out and do eat right but their thyroid is off , or maybe they have a disorder that includes being an extreme overeater.

I also have wondered what about those people that don’t work out and eat horrible food for them.. but they stay skinny. They aren’t healthy, they get sick often, they are pale and are out of shape.. some chubby (not obese) but chubby people would be better off than them.

Anyways.. this is interesting so here’s a star!

  19. Fireball226 Says:

    not for that..

  20. Agent Smith Says:

    No.

This is a result of a secular food chain based on human greed.

When a truck driver has to have a hazardous materials endorsement to haul soft-drinks, what does that tell you???

Good food (fruits, veggies) is too expensive for the average person.

    Enjoy life!

    God bless!

  21. Jason R Says:

I’m not religious at all because of things like this, my opinion is there is nothing wrong with who you are if it doesn’t hurt anybody or affect anyone else, second i feel that religion causes too many problems like this, when all religions define the word hypocritical. if god was good there would be no murder etc etc. so their is no living in ’sin’, its in the eye of the beholder. do not be confined by religion do as you please, live a happy life free of thinking about whether every little stupid thing is a sin……..

  22. coffee_pot12 Says:

The rationale of we are living under grace and the dietary laws don’t apply to us should be made into a bumper sticker next to wide load…

The Temple was desecrated by the Romans sacrificing a pig on the Holy Altar…the unclean was in the Holy temple and made the temple unclean…

eating anything and everything that crawls across the plate then claiming to be under grace and that it is ok….

How does the Holy Spirit get anything done when the temple is in such disrepair??
